Pragmatics is the branch of linguistics that studies the relationship between context and meaning. Science is studying how the delivery of meaning depends not only on linguistic knowledge (grammar, lexicon, etc.) of the speaker and the listener, but also from the context of the narrative, knowledge of the status of the parties involved in the talks, the implied intent of the speaker.
The reason for the appearance of pragmatics in the 1984 curriculum varies:
